2008 Men's Ministry Projects

Camp Aldersgate

For Arkansas children with disabilities, youth and senior adults, Camp Aldersgate is the only place to really get to know the great outdoors with the latest facilities and as few barriers as possible.

Camp Aldersgate has been an Arkansas treasure for over 50 years and thanks to its unique history as one of the first racially integrated institutions in America, it has been designated a National Historic Site of the United Methodist Church. The camp is located on Aldersgate Road, 1/2 mile south off of Kanis Road in Little Rock, less than 1 mile east of the Baptist Medical Center.

Trinity United Methodist Men has the opportunity to help with the maintenance of Camp Aldersgate facilities. In 2008, we will sponsor Camp Aldersgate with fund raisers and volunteer work days.

Our first 2008 work day was Friday, April 25. Additional work days will be scheduled soon.

Cub Scout and Boy Scout Troop 336

Churches provide the Scouting experience for more than 47 percent of all young people in Scouting (BSA). Research today shows that many more young people want the chance to be a Scout than have the opportunity.

  • 12 of every 100 Scouts have their first contact with a church through Scouting.
  • Families often find a church home where their children are involved in Scouting.
  • Scouting provides an attractive program of activities and outdoor education with concerned and caring leadership under the supervision of the church.
  • Single-parent families find Scouting provides for a unique need.
Watch this space for more information to come! Contact Richard Bassett for ways you can help re-establish Cub Scout and Boy Scout Troop 336 at Trinity UMC.

Do you have any suggestions for a project that you would like to work on; a project that is people-driven and will help build relationships? Contact Herlan Westra to make arrangements for publicity and coordination with the rest of the group.

Interest has already been expressed in the following areas, and we are looking for volunteers to take the lead in organizing a project or event:

  • Golf-cart ministry: sign up drivers for Sunday services
  • Mentoring senior high and college students
  • Mission Work (quarterly?)
  • Habitat for Humanity (for more information contact volunteers@habitatpulaski.org)
  • Men's Fraternity (9 months, possibly beginning in Fall 2008 if not sooner)
