Sandi Patty

In the midst of her Women of Faith
tour, 2004 Gospel Music Hall of Fame inductee Sandi Patty will make a one-night
stop in Little Rock to open the twenty-first season of Trinity Presents
Performance Series! Joining her in this performance will be the Chancel Choir
of Trinity United Methodist Church.
The liner notes of Sandi Patty’s album, Hymns of Faith … Songs of Inspiration,
go beyond typical mentions of thanks. They provide a glimpse into the heart of
the singer, who admits to having felt far away from God in times past. Her
praises to the God of second, third and fourth chances reveal that changes have
taken place.
Twenty-eight years have passed since Sandi’s Song came out in 1979. In
that time, she amassed five Grammy Awards, 39 Dove Awards, four Billboard Music
Awards, and sold 11 million albums. Now married to Don Peslis, their blended
family consists of eight children. They adopted Sam, the youngest, together.
Sandi Patty’s career excelled after she won her first two GMA Dove Awards in
1982, and began singing backup for Bill Gaither and the Bill Gaither Trio. She
headlined her first national tour in 1984, and reached national acclaim after
her rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” was included during the ABC Statue
of Liberty rededication broadcast on July 4, 1986. This exposure led to
multiple mainstream television appearances including The Tonight Show, Christmas
in Washington, and Walt Disney Fourth of July Extravaganza.
Patty’s latest book, Falling Forward. . .into His Arms of Grace welcomes
us into Sandi’s world of big families, busy tour schedules, conversations with
women around the country, and personal conversations with God. It doesn’t tell
people how to live. But it does show God’s amazing creativity in using broken
people to glorify him.
Join us in kicking off our twenty-first season by welcoming Sandi Patty to the
Trinity Presents stage!

Pedals & Pipes - A David Glaze Organ
Extravaganza
|
| |
Sunday February 10, 2008 6 pm
|
| |
Forget what you think you know about
organ music! If you have only experienced the pipe organ in the context of the
beautiful sanctuary of a church, you haven’t heard the other personalities of
this wonderful instrument. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to hear the
“king of instruments” presented in all its glorious versatility.
In his 24th year as Trinity United Methodist Church’s Diaconal Minister of
Music, David Glaze has used his immense musical talents to minister to his
church family and to help create meaningful, memorable worship experiences week
after week.
But that’s certainly not the end of the story. Sure, he’s a technical wizard on
the organ, a master at the piano, but David is also an accomplished and
talented entertainer. As any of you who have attended one (or all!) of his
eleven prior Trinity Presents performances know, David is a showman of multiple
talents and abilities. From organ concerts to piano performances to full blown
Christmas musical spectaculars, David has awed, inspired and entertained
Trinity Presents audiences from the very beginning of our series. (Remember the
tap dance number a few years back?)
The program will feature a wide variety of musical styles that will showcase
Trinity’s wonderful pipe organ. You’ll hear everything from classic organ
“war-horses” to numbers you’d never expect to hear played on the organ. We
don’t want to give too much away in this description, but we can promise you
that you are in for a fun-filled, entertaining, perhaps educational (but not
too educational!), romp across the keyboards, pedals, and pipes! We guarantee
you will laugh, be amazed, and maybe wipe away a tear or two as you experience
this incredible concert event.
Mark your calendars, tell your friends, and join us for what will no doubt be
an evening you will long remember!

TRINITY PRESENTS COLLEGIATE
PERFORMANCE SHOWCASE
|
| |
Sunday, March 30, 2008 6pm
|
| |
In an effort to bring you “the best
of the best” each and every season, the Trinity Presents Board of Directors
looks for new and innovative ways to identify and secure talented performers in
a variety of disciplines. In the past, this has meant bringing artists in from
both coasts and as far away as Vienna, Austria!
But for one of our offerings this year, we decided to look a little closer to
home and try to find those “rising stars” in our own state. Every professional
musician, vocal or instrumental, has to be given a place and time to showcase
their talents and develop their performance skills. We want to nurture that
local talent and perhaps provide a means of jump-starting a major career or
two! You’ll be able to say you “knew them when.”
We have contacted the faculty of the music departments of Arkansas colleges and
universities and will begin an application process in mid-December. The
applicants will submit audition video recordings and supplemental information
about themselves. Through a screening process overseen by the Trinity Presents
Board of Directors, the finalists will be selected and will participate in the
performance here on the Trinity Presents stage on Sunday, March 30, 2008. Cash
prizes will be awarded to the finalists that evening and an overall winner will
be announced.
The exciting part of this performance is not only knowing that we are helping
young, aspiring artists to further their futures in music, the contents of the
program will be a surprise until you arrive!
Please make plans to join us for the very first of what we hope will be many
years of Trinity Presents Collegiate Performance Shocases. We look forward to
welcoming all of you to this very special event. We know that our always loyal
and supportive Trinity Presents audience will want to be here to support these
talented young people!

Joe Utterback, jazz pianist
|

Blues, ballads, Broadway, and
standard jazz favorites blossom in the jazz improvisations of Yamaha Artist Joe
Utterback. His piano improvs - “a composite of the greatest American jazz and
piano styles of the century” (Pianoforte) - owe much to his admiration
of Bill Evans, Art Tatum, Erroll Garner, Oscar Peterson, and Sarah Vaughan. His
style is known for “its deeply personal quality, dynamic ability to involve the
audience, haunting melodies and colorful sonorities” (Accent). Utterback has
been performing jazz for more than forty years, since his first gig at the age
of seventeen in Wichita, Kansas. His jazz journey has taken Joe throughout the
United States and Europe, with long-term engagements in such jazz centers as
St. Louis, Kansas City, and San Francisco.
Dr. Joe performs annually for the Tony Awards gala reception, in the lobby of
The Empire State Building during the December holiday season, and at a weekly
gig at Regents on 53rd. He gives frequent solo concerts throughout the United
States.
Joe’s career in the recording industry dates from a 1960’s vinyl recording of Christmas
Eve at the Wurlitzer on the now demolished theater organ in Wichita’s
Miller Theater. In 1996, Connoisseur Society, Inc. released Joe’s first solo
jazz piano CD, Gershwin: Porgy and Bess Jazz Suite Four additional
Connoisseur CDs followed. In 2004, Joe recorded Dr. Joe’s JAZZ GOSPEL and Jazz
Dreamz under his own publishing label Jazzmuze, Inc. In June
2005, Connoisseur released Stardust, recorded right after 9/11. With
wonderful ballads, the CD is late night listening par excellence! Joe is
actively involved in local studio work, recording with New York City cabaret
singers.
A Kansas native, Dr. Joe holds degrees in piano from Wichita State University,
and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Kansas. He teaches at
Sacred Heart University, Fairfield CT; directs the Stratford Sister Cities
Chorus; and serves as Director of Music and Organist at the First
Congregational Church of Stratford, Connecticut.
